For decades Search and Rescue members have been utilizing various skills and technology to locate those who have lost their way in the vast wilderness of Canada. Now, as Canada looks to engage the whole of society in the emergency management, SAR members and organizations will need to develop new navigational skills as it finds its way through this new environment.
This session will focus on the challenges and opportunities of national coordination of GSAR and how GSAR can become the fourth element in the public safety emergency response system in Canada. Through the use of technology, we will conduct an interactive session with GSAR members in which we will highlight the opportunities that are now presented as Canada and the provinces reshape the emergency management structure across the nation. We will also delve into the challenges that the volunteer sector will face as it becomes the nationally coordinated arms and legs of emergency management systems across the country.
