Many persons who become subjects of a search and rescue operation have some type of dementia, and SAR professionals are required to know how to speak, react and re-direct these individuals when they are found. This presentation includes basic information regarding dementia, potential behaviours the SAR team may encounter and tips for how to handle a situation. Information will also be given on a training course for professionals working with persons with dementia called "Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care" and how teams can use this training to enhance their knowledge base.
